How to play
Yestr Music gives you one song a day. Here's the rhythm:
- A new puzzle drops every morning. Open the app and tap the vinyl record on the home screen.
- You get twelve seconds. The song plays once automatically.
- Drag the dial to guess the year. Years range from 1970 to 2026.
- Tap "Guess" to lock it in. You'll see how close you were and earn a score from 0 to 100.
- Come back tomorrow. Streaks build by playing every day. Skip a day and the streak resets — unless you use a Streak Freeze.
- The Nightcap unlocks at 7 PM local. It's a bonus song from the same year as today's puzzle. Two songs a day, max.
Frequently asked questions
Is Yestr Music really free?
Yes. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no premium tier, no usage limits. The app is supported by display ads. Every player gets the full game.
Why didn't my song play?
A few common causes: your device might be on silent or with media volume down, the iTunes preview API might be temporarily unavailable for that specific song, or the app might need a fresh internet connection. Force-close the app and reopen — the song should reload.
My streak disappeared. What happened?
Streaks reset if you skip a day. The day boundary is based on your local timezone; if you traveled across time zones recently, your "day" may have shifted. If you have a Streak Freeze available (offered when you break a streak), you can save the streak by watching a short ad.
Can I play yesterday's puzzle? Or older ones?
Not currently. Yestr Music is built around the daily ritual — one song, today only. We may add an archive in the future, but for now, the joy of the daily puzzle is in playing it on the day.
How is my score calculated?
Each year your guess is from the actual release year, you lose 5 points from a starting 100. So a perfect guess is 100. Off by 1 year = 95. Off by 5 years = 75. Off by 20 years or more = 0. The closer you guess, the better your score and your stats trend over time.
What's a Nightcap?
The Nightcap is a bonus song that unlocks at 7 PM local time, after you've played the day's main puzzle. It's another song from the same year — your second chance to use what you've learned about that era. The Nightcap closes at midnight local.
Can I turn off ads?
No. Yestr Music is free for everyone, supported by ads. There's no ad-free version. If you've had a bad ad experience (e.g., something inappropriate appeared), please email us with the time it happened so we can flag it with our ad provider.
What is App Tracking Transparency (ATT)?
On iOS, Apple asks every app whether it can track you across other apps and websites for advertising. Yestr Music respects your choice. If you say "Ask App Not to Track," we'll show you non-personalized ads only. You can change this anytime in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Yestr Music.
Why aren't I getting notifications?
Make sure notifications are enabled at the system level (iOS Settings or Android Settings → Apps → Yestr Music → Notifications) AND turned on inside the app's own Settings screen. Both layers must be on.
How do I delete my account?
Open the app, go to Settings, scroll to "Delete Account," confirm. Your gameplay data, streaks, and anonymous account ID are deleted within 30 days.
How do I export my data?
Settings → "Export My Data." You'll receive a JSON file with all your gameplay history.

Troubleshooting
The app crashes on launch. Try uninstalling and reinstalling. Your gameplay data is stored locally on your device — uninstalling will reset your progress. If you've enabled the cloud-sync option (currently roadmap), data will be restored.
Audio plays but I see no waveform animation. This is cosmetic, not a bug. The waveform is decorative.
The dial feels stuck. If you've used the "Narrow the range" hint, the dial is intentionally limited to a smaller range. This is by design — the hint trades a wider guess for an easier one.
Ads aren't appearing. Ads require an internet connection and may not appear if your device is offline or if you're using a VPN that blocks ad networks. Ads also take a moment to load on a fresh app launch.
